The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned of severe thunderstorms in five provinces, damaging waves in the Western Cape, and hot and humid conditions in the Eastern Cape.
Impact-based warnings
Yellow level 2 warning: Severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours, damaging winds, hail and excessive lightning, resulting in localised flooding and damage to infrastructure and settlements, are expected over the North West, the southern parts of Gauteng, and the north-western parts of KwaZulu-Natal, the southern Highveld and the escarpment of Mpumalanga, as well as the northern parts of the Free State.
Yellow level 1 warning: Damaging winds leading to damage to settlements and temporary structures are expected over the south-eastern parts of the Northern Cape.
Yellow level 2 warning: Damaging waves leading to localised damage to coastal infrastructure and difficulty in navigation at sea are expected between Cape Columbine and Cape Agulhas in the evening, spreading to Alexander Bay and Plettenberg Bay on Sunday morning.

In the SAWS’ colour-coded weather warning system, yellow indicates a moderate risk of impact that requires caution and awareness, while orange indicates that higher-risk impact is expected, requiring increased attention and preparation.
The SAWS uses the numbers to indicate the likelihood of weather-based impacts occurring. Levels 2 and 6 are high, and level 4 is low.
