Petrol attendant’s viral love of Audi’s RS3 lands him dream job – selling them

Motlatso Magolego is a former petrol attendant who now works for Audi. He says every time he poured fuel into an Audi RS3, he visualised himself in the car.

    • A 23-year-old former petrol attendant from Limpopo, Motlatso Magolego, went viral after sharing his dream of owning an Audi RS3 on social media.
    • His video caught the attention of Ebrahim Docrat, who offered him a job at Audi’s Newcastle dealership, where he now works as a sales executive.
    • Magolego’s story inspired many online users, who raised over R21 000 to help him relocate from Limpopo to KwaZulu-Natal for his new job.

A Limpopo man’s career has shifted gears from petrol attendant to a position at an Audi dealership after a viral video of him speaking about how he will one day own his dream car, the Audi RS3, landed him the surprise job.

Motlatso Magolego, 23, went viral after posting a clip on social media, saying he hopes to one day drive and own an Audi RS3.

Pictured in one of his Facebook videos, where he goes by his nickname Abuti Boco, he is seen admiring a customer’s Audi RS3 with the caption:

“[I] don’t think I’ll ever stop dreaming. One day, all this effort will make sense.”

The clip went viral, reaching over 2 million views. Many users shared their heartfelt messages, encouraging him to keep striving for his dream car.

User Kumkani Velabadane MabonaAbulawe said: “Your dreams are valid, bhuti.”

User S’fiso Mbuli said: “It has happened, they are delivering the car very soon.”

Magolego posted another video on Instagram, which also received a lot of traction.

A user by the name of Ebrahim Docrat responded to the video, giving Magolego an opportunity to work for an Audi dealership in Newcastle: “We love that you love Audi!!! Come work for me.”

Uncertain at first, thinking the user was joking, Magolego eventually reached out, attended an online meeting and an interview, and got the job.

Dealer principal for Audi Centre Newcastle, Docrat, said he supported Magolego because he was drawn to his story and wanted to give him an opportunity.

“This, for many people, including myself, is not just about the RS3 or how viral the post was. This is about a young man who needed just an opportunity, where in our country today we have such a high youth unemployment rate and no opportunity or platform,” said Docrat.

Docrat added that this was a chance to help someone better their life and hopes many other businesses will adopt the same attitude to make a difference in the lives of the youth.

Magolego said his love for the Audi RS3 began when he was a petrol attendant, pouring fuel into customers’ cars. He would marvel every time he saw one.

Every time when I poured fuel into it, I started to visualise myself in the car. So that’s where I started connecting with that car because it became very emotional. Whenever I saw that car, I would be inspired.

Magolego, who is now the Audi sales executive at the Newcastle branch, is responsible for selling new or used vehicles and making sure that customers are satisfied with the service they receive. He added that working for Audi is a dream come true for him.

Before relocating to Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natal from Jane Furse in Limpopo for his new job, one of his friends advised him to open a BackaBuddy campaign to raise funds to settle in his new place.

The campaign, named RoadtoRS3 journey, has grown ever since. The campaign has raised R21 126, which is 106% of the R20 000 goal.

Many have shared his journey as an example of how it is important for oneself to believe in one’s dreams and never give up.
