Barcelona goalkeeper Diego Kochen will leave the club on loan this summer, with sources telling ESPN Danish side Lyngby Boldklub are leading the race to sign the American.

Kochen, 20, is highly rated at Barça but it has been decided that the best step for his development is to go and play regular football elsewhere.

Lyngby, recently promoted to the Danish Superliga, are keen to take him on a season-long loan and sources said the player is open to the move.

There is already an America link at Lyngby. Union Sports and Entertainment, the ownership group at Philadelphia Union, purchased a 10% share in the club in 2024.

The Miami-born stopper, who has featured in USMNT training camps under Mauricio Pochettino, spent the last season rotating between Barça’s first team and the reserve side, Barça Atletic, who play in Spain’s fourth tier.

Considered the club’s third goalkeeper for the majority of the campaign, behind Joan García and Wojciech Szczęsny, he was part of Hansi Flick’s match day squad for 40 matches.

Despite that, he is yet to make his full senior debut for the Catalan club, although he did play 29 minutes in a friendly against Liga MX side Club América in Dallas in 2023.

Instead, his minutes have come for Barça Atletic, who he made 20 appearances for in the Segunda Federación during the 2025-26 season.

Kochen, whose Barça contract runs until 2028, has parents from Venezuela and Peru but has always prioritised playing for the United States.

As well as being involved in training camps with the senior team, he has been capped at U16, U17, U19, U20 and U23 level.
