Josh Smith scored twice as Warrington moved joint top of Super League despite a disjointed display in a 12-4 win over Hull FC.

Hull took an early lead after some sloppy Wolves defending, Harvey Barron diving over in the corner for his third try of the season.

Warrington then lost Luke Thomas to a yellow card for a nasty-looking spear-style tackle on Harvie Hill.

Warrington thought they had levelled the scores when Toby King stretched and rolled to get the ball down, but his 100th career try was ruled out by the video ref for a double movement.

Zak Hardaker had suffered a head injury in the build-up and the Hull centre was forced off, before Wolves skipper Ben Currie suffered the same fate.

Warrington piled on the pressure early in the second half and were rewarded when Josh Smith flew over in the same corner as Barron, with Marc Sneyd’s conversion edging them ahead.

Barron had a second try ruled out on review for obstruction and Smith scored his second at the death as the Wolves eked out a gritty victory.

Leigh Leopards made it two Super League wins in a row with a 24-14 win over Castleford Tigers at the OneBore Stadium.

It was Castleford who were first on the scoresheet as Jason Qareqare went over on the second minute but Leigh then hit back twice through Jacob Alick-Wiencke and Innes Senior to take in a 12-6 lead at half-time.

Leigh then made sure they were the first to score after the break through Jack Hughes, but then Castleford managed to go over again through George Lawley.

Despite the hit back, Adam Cook’s effort on the 66th minute, which he converted himself, wrapped up the solid victory which has them up to seventh in the standings.

Bradford secured their sixth Super League win of the season with a 30-20 success over York.

York went ahead after 20 cagey minutes when David Nofoaluma got over in the corner but the Bulls drew level after Ethan Ryan cleverly fed Jayden Nikorima for their first score.

Riley Dean kicked the conversion and then a penalty to put the hosts 8-4 up at half-time.

York equalised when Cody Hunter’s looping pass was taken by Nofoaluma for his second try.

However, two more Dean penalties, either side of a converted try by the posts from Joey Mellor, put Bradford in charge.

Nofoaluma completed a hat-trick but further tries from Dean and Eribe Doro saw Bradford home before Liam Harris pulled one back.
