A woman suspected of a bomb attack on a businessman and his family in Monaco last week has been found dead in Ukraine, the Ukrainian authorities said on Tuesday.
The Ukrainian prosecutor general’s office said in a statement that the woman, Anastasiia Berezovska, a Ukrainian citizen, had been discovered shot. The office added that an investigation had been opened into the circumstances of her death.
The law enforcement authorities in Monaco had been searching for Ms. Berezovska, 39, in connection with the bomb attack and on suspicion of attempting to kill the Ukrainian-born businessman and his family.
Two men have also been detained on suspicion of committing premeditated murder as part of a group acting in conspiracy, the prosecutor general’s statement said. It was not immediately clear if those detentions were in connection with the attack in Monaco or with the death of Ms. Berezovska.
An international search had been underway since Friday for Ms. Berezovska. She was suspected of attempting to kill the businessman, a woman and a child, after they walked home on Monday night from dinner at a seaside restaurant, according to Morgan Raymond, Monaco’s deputy prosecutor.
Ukrainian investigators established that Ms. Berezovska had communicated with her family and two men after returning to Ukraine on July 1, according to the Ukrainian prosecutor’s office. One of the men was a former law enforcement officer and the other was an officer of Ukraine’s intelligence service, the office’s statement added.
Investigators were aware that both men had repeatedly transferred money to Ms. Berezovska through cryptocurrency and bank accounts, the statement said, noting that, as a result, they had been under investigation as possible accomplices in the Monaco attack.
The investigation at the home of the law enforcement officer led the authorities to Ms. Berezovska’s body, the prosecutor’s statement added.
