A trip billed as the first-ever “organized boat and bike journey along the Nile” is launching in Egypt in 2026.

Boat Bike Tours, which specializes in mostly European cycling-and-cruising voyages, will set out on its first Egypt and Nile River itinerary in February, with additional departures scheduled for late October 2026 through the following spring. (Trust us: You wouldn’t want to pedal a bike during a scorching Egyptian summer.)

The 13-day tour takes travelers to a Red Sea resort, fertile farmlands and small villages along the river, and, of course, ancient monuments including the Great Pyramids outside Cairo.

Along the way, 8 days of guided cycling tours take place via e-bike to make for comfortable riding, with guides, “licensed Egyptologists,” support vans, and local experts on hand to ensure safety and convenience, according to a Boat Bike Tours news release.

Upping the novelty factor, the tour operator has secured special permission from Egypt’s government to travel primarily on less busy roads than the usual tourist routes, allowing cyclists to encounter monuments and local residents from a unique perspective and at a relatively unhurried tempo.

“Riding on quieter roads, we’ll see the country up close and at the perfect pace to take in its centuries of history, contrasting landscapes and daily life,” says Boat Bike Tours CEO Laurens Winkel in a statement.

The tour begins amid the marina and palm-lined boulevards of El Gouna on the Red Sea before traveling inland. Then you’ll spend the next week pedaling past farmers and alabaster workshops, stopping to inspect impressive temples and other ancient sites in cities such as Aswan and Luxor.

Other excursions include a visit to a Nubian village, a ride on a traditional sailing ship, and a jaunt through a bird-filled nature reserve.

Following an internal flight to Cairo, the tour culminates in Giza, where passengers will ride to the Great Pyramids and get to explore the brand-new Grand Egyptian Museum with its thousands of exhibits and artifacts chronicling Ancient Egypt.

When not on bikes, tourgoers’ accommodations will be on the all-suite HS Nebu river cruise ship. Hotel stays in El Gouna and the Cairo area are included at the beginning and end of the itinerary.

Boat Bike Tours’ 13-day “Egypt & the Nile—A Journey to Ancient Wonders” trip starts at €5,299 (about $6,2327) per person based on double occupancy. Visa fees, airport transfers, hotel and ship accommodations, a domestic flight in Egypt, three daily meals, e-bikes and other equipment, and guided tours are all included.

The trip launches in February 2026 but those departures are sold out. The next available departure is October 22.

Note: Frommer’s has no affiliation with this tour operator and receives no compensation if you book a trip.
