Six-week-old baby killed, 17 people injured in Kempton Park collision

A six-week-old baby died and 17 others were injured in an accident near Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni.

A six-week-old baby was killed, and 17 others were injured when two vehicles crashed into each other in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, on Wednesday.

According to the City of Ekurhuleni’s emergency management services, rescue teams were called to the scene on 9th Road in Bredell at 12:00.

Spokesperson William Ntladi said, upon arrival, teams found a Toyota Quantum with 15 occupants and a Nissan Hardbody double cab with three occupants, which were suspected to have collided head-on.

“One patient, a six-week-old infant, was unfortunately declared dead at the scene. Five other patients, including the drivers of both vehicles, sustained critical injuries and were transported to various hospitals around the City of Ekurhuleni,” said Ntladi.
