    Fatal stabbing of high school pupil sparks police manhunt in Limpopo

    A 17-year-old Grade 10 pupil from Ipopeng High School was found with fatal stab wounds outside the school in Setumong village, Ga-Matlala, Limpopo, police said.

    A 17-year-old Grade 10 pupil from Ipopeng High School has been stabbed to death in Setumong village, Ga-Matlala, in Limpopo.

    The pupil, who had stab wounds to his chest and back, was found in the street outside the school by two pupils just after 19:00 on Thursday.

    The pair immediately contacted the victim’s brother and emergency services.

    An ambulance transported the injured teenager first to WF Knobel Hospital and later to the clinic in Setumong, where a doctor certified him dead on arrival.

    Police were later called to the clinic, where they were shown the body of the teenager.

    Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has strongly condemned the heinous killing and ordered a full-scale police response.

    Ledwaba said the commissioner has instructed police to utilise all available resources to swiftly trace and bring the suspects to justice.

    At this stage, the motive for the attack is unknown, and no arrests have been made. Police say the suspects remain unidentified.

    Ga-Matlala police have opened a murder investigation as efforts intensify to bring the killer or killers to justice.

    They have also appealed to the public for assistance in tracing those responsible. Anyone with information has been urged to contact detective Sergeant Matenyane Thloka on 072 315 9664 or call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
