Four suspected murderers were killed in a shootout with KwaZulu-Natal police in Inanda on Tuesday night.
According to police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda, the four people were wanted for various cases, including murder, attempted murder, and robbery with a firearm.
“Police reacted to intelligence about the wanted suspects who were spotted at their hideout spot at a two-roomed shack house at Amatikwe. When police arrived at the scene, a shootout ensued between the suspects and police, which resulted in the four wanted suspects sustaining fatal gunshot wounds,” he said.
Four firearms, all of which were pistols, and several rounds of ammunition were found in their possession.
No police officer was injured during the shootout, Netshiunda added.
The incident comes two weeks after four people were killed in a shootout with police at Adam’s Mission, south of Durban.
“Police were on an intelligence-driven operation when they spotted the vehicle matching the description of the one which the suspects were using to terrorise the community of Umbumbulu and other areas by committing armed robberies, house robberies, carjackings and kidnappings,” Netshiunda said.
Police caught up with them in Sheleni Road and, during the confrontation, a shootout ensued.
