It’s been nearly four years since Fiona Mpfunzeni Matodzi, who was nine years old at the time, vanished without a trace, leaving her family and community in despair.
Now, Limpopo police are intensifying their efforts to solve the mystery, offering a R100 000 reward in the hope that someone, somewhere, holds the key to reuniting the girl with her loved ones and bringing those responsible to justice.
Fiona was reported missing on 11 August 2022 after she disappeared in Itsani Village in the Thohoyandou policing precinct.
According to police, the girl was walking home from school when she was allegedly abducted in front of a fellow pupil.

“She was last seen by fellow learners who were walking behind her. The learners informed police that they saw Fiona getting into a black Volkswagen Polo motor vehicle, which did not have registration number plates,” said police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.
“The occupants of the vehicle could not be identified.”
The girl never made it home and has not been seen since.
At the time of her disappearance, Fiona was wearing her school uniform.
The family continues to appeal for assistance, as they remain desperate for answers regarding her whereabouts.

Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe said every possible lead was being pursued to locate Fiona and bring those responsible to justice.
“We urge members of the public to come forward with any information, no matter how small it may seem. Someone out there knows something, and that information could be critical in reuniting Fiona with her family and ensuring that justice is served,” she said.
