Thundershowers are forecast for most parts of the country; these will be severe with strong, damaging winds in parts of the North West, Northern Cape and Free State, according to the South African Weather Service (SAWS).

    Impact-based warnings

Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms with strong, damaging winds and heavy downpours, leading to localised flooding and damage to susceptible formal/informal settlements and infrastructure over the Free State, the central and western parts of the North West, as well as the central and southern parts of the Northern Cape.

In the SAWS’ colour-coded weather warning system, yellow indicates a moderate risk of impact that requires caution and awareness, while orange indicates that a higher-risk impact is expected, requiring increased attention and preparation.

SAWS uses the numbers to indicate the likelihood of weather-based impacts occurring. Levels 2 and 6 are high, and Level 4 is low.

Very cold, wet and windy conditions are expected over the southern parts of the Namakwa district of the Northern Cape, the City of Cape Town, Central Karoo, the Cape Winelands and the western parts of the Overberg districts of the Western Cape from Sunday into Monday.
