Saturday’s weather: Damaging coastal winds for Cape Town as cold mornings sweep across SA

The SAWS has issued a damaging wind warning for the Western Cape south coast, where gale-force conditions are expected between Cape Point and Cape Agulhas well into the afternoon.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned beachgoers and boaters along the Western Cape coastline to stay out of harm’s way on Saturday as gale-force winds are expected to batter the stretch between Cape Point and Cape Agulhas.

A Yellow Level 2 warning is in effect for damaging coastal winds in the morning, while the rest of the country settles into a typically cool autumn day with cold starts expected across the interior.

    Impact-based warnings

A Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging coastal winds leading to localised disruption to beachfront activities is expected between Cape Point and Cape Agulhas in the morning.

In the SAWS’s colour-coded weather warning system, yellow indicates a moderate risk of impact that requires caution and awareness, while orange indicates that a higher-risk impact is expected, requiring increased attention and preparation.

SAWS uses the numbers to indicate the likelihood of weather-based impacts occurring. Levels 2 and 6 are high, and Level 4 is low.
