The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a yellow level 1 warning for severe thunderstorms in the Northern Cape, while cold and windy conditions are expected across parts of the Western Cape and Eastern Cape.

Residents in affected areas should take precautions and secure loose objects ahead of the windy conditions.

    Impact-based warning

Yellow level 1 warning for severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours, leading to localised flooding and damages to susceptible formal/informal settlements and infrastructure, are expected over the central and south-eastern parts of the Northern Cape.

In the SAWS’s colour-coded weather warning system, yellow indicates a moderate risk of impact that requires caution and awareness, while orange indicates that a higher-risk impact is expected, requiring increased attention and preparation.

SAWS uses the numbers to indicate the likelihood of weather-based impacts occurring. Levels 2 and 6 are high, and level 4 is low.

Weather forecast for today & tomorrow, 24 -25 April 2026.
Cloudy and cold to cool in places over the central & eastern parts of RSA. Otherwise, partly cloudy with isolated to scattered showers & thundershowers possible except over the extreme south-western parts of the country. pic.twitter.com/p6owPt7dSr
