A 26-year-old Brazil national was arrested at OR Tambo international Airport, with cocaine worth millions found in their luggage.
Police arrested a 26-year-old Brazilian national at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg on Sunday, after discovering cocaine with an estimated street value of R8.7 million concealed in the person’s luggage.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, said the multiple blocks of cocaine had been wrapped and concealed inside the person’s luggage.

“This arrest forms part of ongoing intelligence-driven operations targeting transnational drug trafficking networks operating through South Africa’s largest port of entry,” she said.
Police at OR Tambo International Airport have, in recent months, recorded several successes in intercepting drug traffickers attempting to smuggle narcotics into the country.

Mathe said the interception of drug traffickers had gone a long way towards disrupting the supply of illicit drugs and strengthening the fight against organised crime.
The 26-year-old Brazilian national is expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on charges of drug trafficking.
