Authorities said the operation formed part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to dismantle organised criminal syndicates involved in the illicit trade of precious minerals and corruption within the country.
Police have also not disclosed the ranks of the arrested officers.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Mathe said the charges might include the unlawful dealing in precious metals, defeating the ends of justice, corruption, and contravention of applicable legislation regulating precious metals in South Africa.
Police investigations are continuing.
Meanwhile, News24 found a group of anxious people, who appeared to be Kadwa’s family members, waiting at the back gate of the Kempton Park police station on Sunday.
This gate is used by police to ferry suspects to holding cells at the rear of the police station.
The family members said: “We’re not giving out a statement.”
